Facilities
The spaces
Darkroom, studio and library. At Nau Bostik, Barcelona.
Llumàtics is at Nau Bostik, Carrer Ferran Turné 1-11, in the La Sagrera neighbourhood of Barcelona. A converted industrial space shared by artists, workshops and cultural projects.
The Llumàtics spaces are not open to the public on a drop-in basis. All visits are by appointment and workshops always run in groups of maximum four people.
The darkroom
The darkroom is the heart of Llumàtics. This isn’t a beginner’s lab: it’s a fully equipped space for serious work, from the first session through to the final print.
Enlargers: We have enlargers for 35mm, medium format and large format. The large-format enlarger handles 4×5" sheet film directly onto paper. The medium-format enlargers accept all 120 formats (6×4.5, 6×6, 6×7, 6×9).
Chemistry: Everything you need to develop and print in B&W: developers (Kodak D-76, Ilford ID-11, Rodinal), stop bath, fixers, washing aid and wetting agents. Chemistry is replenished regularly and temperature is controlled with a precision thermometer.
Darkroom equipment:
- Trays for 35mm, medium format and large format
- Fridge for films and chemical solutions
- Negative drying cabinet
- Glazing machine for RC paper prints
- Grain magnifier and negative viewing light
- Developing tanks in various sizes (Paterson, Jobo, tray)
- pH meters and lab thermometers
Safety: The darkroom has forced ventilation, a chemical vapour extractor and a waste management protocol. Photographic chemicals are handled as special waste.
The studio
The Llumàtics studio is a working space, not a production set. Small, functional, equipped for portrait and product photography.
Available equipment:
- Studio flash heads with radio and sync-cable triggers
- Paper backdrops in various colours (white, black)
- Reflectors, diffusers and basic light modifiers
- Tripods and grip accessories
- Flash light meters
The studio is used in the Analogue portrait, 6×6 portrait and Photography tutorial sessions. It is not available for separate hire.
Scanning and editing station

A functional scanning space, built for precision work with negatives and positives in all formats.
Available scanners:
- Epson Perfection V850 Pro film scanner (negatives up to 4×5", slides, paper)
- A4 flatbed scanner for prints and photographic documents
Digital editing:
- Colour-calibrated workstation (sRGB/Adobe RGB)
- Software: Lightroom Classic, Capture One, Photoshop
- ICC profiles for major paper and film types
The scanning station is used in Scanning and digitalisation workshops and Photography tutorial sessions.
The library

A small but carefully chosen library. No decoration: every book here has been read or will be read.
Main areas:
Photographic technique: developing manuals (The Film Developing Cookbook, The Darkroom Cookbook, Ilford and Kodak guides), large-format technique books, B&W chemistry guides.
Documentary and street photography: Alex Coghe, Garry Winogrand, Josef Koudelka, Vivian Maier, Fan Ho, Doisneau, Cartier-Bresson, Castro Prieto, Rubén Morales.
Alternative processes: literature on cyanotype, calotype, gum bichromate and other nineteenth-century processes.
Photobooks: a collection of editorial photobooks, mainly from 112books and other independent European publishers.
The library is available to students during workshops. It is not a public reference library.
