FAQ — Frequently asked questions
About the workshops
How many students are there per session?
All Llumàtics workshops have a maximum of four students per session. This small-group format allows close, personalised support adapted to each participant's pace and interests, and guarantees genuine hands-on time with the darkroom and equipment.
Do I need previous experience in analogue photography?
It depends on the workshop. Introductory workshops (such as Photography fundamentals or Black and white developing) require no prior experience. Intermediate and advanced workshops do require completing the previous level or having equivalent knowledge. Each workshop page clearly states the prerequisites.
What equipment do I need to bring?
In general, you don't need to bring anything: Llumàtics provides all the technical materials (chemistry, paper, trays, measuring equipment). For camera-based workshops (portrait, street) you need to bring your own analogue camera. Each workshop page specifies exactly what to bring in the What to bring section.
Do workshops have fixed dates or are they on demand?
Workshops at Llumàtics (Nau Bostik) run on demand: there is no fixed calendar. When you write to us, we find a date together that fits your availability. Some external workshops (such as those at Cameras & Films) do have scheduled dates; you'll find these in the Schedule section.
About the space
Where exactly is Llumàtics?
Llumàtics is at Nau Bostik, Carrer Ferran Turné, 1-11, in the La Sagrera neighbourhood of Barcelona (08027). It's a converted industrial building shared by artists, workshops and cultural projects. Enter through the main building entrance; reception will point you in the right direction.
Can I visit the space before booking a workshop?
Yes, by appointment. Llumàtics is not an open-access space: we open exclusively for workshops and pre-arranged visits. If you'd like to see the darkroom, studio or library before signing up, get in touch and we'll arrange a visit with no commitment.
Pricing and payment
How does payment work? Can I get an invoice?
Payment is by bank transfer or Bizum once a date is confirmed. Training workshops are VAT-exempt (art. 20.1.9 LIVA). If you need an invoice, let us know when you get in touch and we'll send one with full tax details.
Are there discounts for groups or returning students?
Prices already include a progressive group discount: the more people you come with, the lower the cost per person (see the pricing table on each workshop page). There are no additional discounts for returning students, but past participants will have priority when scheduling dates.
What is the cancellation policy?
If you cancel with more than 72 hours' notice, you can reschedule at no cost. Under 72 hours, Llumàtics reserves the right to retain 50% of the amount as compensation for the reserved space and prepared materials. In cases of force majeure, we handle things on a case-by-case basis.
External workshops and institutions
Do you run workshops outside Nau Bostik?
Yes. Llumàtics has a line of external workshops run in collaboration with other venues. We currently work regularly with Cameras & Films (formerly Lomography Embassy Barcelona), where we teach large-format portrait, developing and experimental process workshops.
Do you run workshops for schools or cultural centres?
Yes. Llumàtics designs and delivers institutional workshops for secondary schools, civic centres, arts centres and cultural organisations. Format and content are adapted to the centre's needs. If you're interested in a tailored proposal, write to us at info@llumatics.com with details of the centre, the age group and your objectives.
