Positivador WebApp, a small tool to help us in the darkroom

We teach many courses inside the darkroom. There used to be a trick to make your phone invert a negative paper or film to get an idea of the result, but now you have the Positivador App.

In the courses we teach, students —and teachers too— have always struggled to interpret a negative image correctly. After making a direct paper negative portrait, or when looking at freshly developed film, it’s perfectly normal for our brains to have difficulty reading a negative as the image it will become once printed.

Not sure if it’s overdeveloped or underdeveloped? Still finding it hard to read shadow densities? Don’t worry! You can now download for free the Positivador web app, which we designed and developed together with LinuxBCN to make it easy to visualise the positive image directly on your phone. You can also flip it horizontally —the negative is mirrored, after all—, rotate the image, freeze the frame and —in the pro version— save it to your device.
