Cameraless cyanotype prints at Nau Bostik

Fifteen people, sensitised paper, sunlight and whatever everyone had in their pockets. Two hours and fifteen unique Prussian blues.

Cameraless cyanotype prints at Nau Bostik

On 15 November we ran the free cameraless cyanotype workshop at Nau Bostik. Fifteen places. Fifteen people. None of them had ever made a cyanotype before.

The formula is simple: two iron salts, paper and sunlight. But “simple” doesn’t mean “no surprises”. Every sheet of paper responds differently. November light in Barcelona is not the same as August light. And the objects people bring — leaves, feathers, keys, a magnifying glass, a phone negative printed onto an acetate at the last minute — completely change the result.

The access was free because we wanted it to be accessible. The chemistry isn’t expensive. Neither is the paper. What is expensive is time, and this kind of session gives it back to you.

The full Cyanotype workshop — eight hours, two acetate negatives, toning — is the natural next step for anyone who wants to go further.
